  4. Include at least 2 quotes from the play to support your ideas (no need to format, just use quotes)
  5. Due Wednesday, September 19th by midnight
  6. Secondary Sources may be used but not quoted from (no citations)

Evaluation:

QUESTIONS:

1) PRIDE – examine how pride is both an asset and detriment to Antigone and Creon. Offer an insight toward what Sophocles is communicating about "pride."

2) GENDER – examine how gender affects Ismene, Antigone, & Creon...and how it heightens the conflict between Creon and Antigone. Offer an insight toward what Sophocles is communicating about "gender."

3) TYRANNY – examine the words of Creon and discuss how he is perceived as a tyrant. Is Creon simply lusting for power or is something else energizing his stance? What is Sophocles saying about tyranny?

4) DIVINE LAW vs. STATE (or civil) LAW – Briefly discuss the positions of Antigone and Creon with respect to this dichotomy. Offer insight into the meaning of this obvious split in the social fabric. What is Sophocles attempting to show the reader?
